You’re walking through the woods in the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama. You hear coming from the west, the sound of a woman screaming. Was it? Your heart starts pounding and your breathing gets louder as adrenaline is coursing through your veins. You begin getting slight tunnel vision as you begin to run in the direction hoping to be of some help to the person you heard. You try to pull your phone from your pocket to call the police, then you see it. Eight feet tall, covered in white fur, and red eyes. The Alabama White Thang.
My description above may be a bit exaggerated. But in reality, there have been a few sightings of the Alabama White Thang but no description has been confirmed. Also, have you ever heard a more Alabamian name for a cryptid? The White Thang? Anyway.
The White Thang has been reported since the 1940’s. They say that the creature moves quickly and is difficult to get a good look at, which is probably why everyone has different versions of the same thing. Or maybe not the same thing?
Some people describe this as an albino bigfoot with red eyes, some say it’s like a white lion. Some say that it has the body of a kangaroo and the head of a cat. It differs by place too. In Huntsville its seen as a large humanoid alien with no eyes or ears. But they all say it’s huge.
There have been many sightings of the White Thang all across the state, places like above in Decatur, in Coosa, Jefferson, Etowah, and Morgan counties. So the question is, is this a different “breed” of bigfoot? Is this creature something all on it’s own? There isn’t much with this, but I felt like there were enough sightings to make a full post about it. AL.com has done a few different articles on this subject and that’s where I got most of my information. There is a ton of information on this but it all is kind of the same. Giant, white, fluffy monster. The finer details get a bit mixed up, though.
