This post is a bit out-of-the-ordinary. I have questions and I want answers.

I’m not a paranormal expert and I’ll never claim to be. I have had a lot of what I believe to be paranormal experiences in my life so I developed an interest. Sometimes, I’ll ask what other people think is going on. This is one of those times.

Most of my life living with my parents, I believe there was one spirit that stayed in the house and went up and down the stairs, we’ve covered that. BUT, there have always been odd instances where other things happen that are not things that spirit would (or could) do. So this post is going to be a list of a few of those stories. After the stories, maybe someone can shed some light on what is going on?

I’ve tried looking it up, I’m not sure what to call it but I’ve always called them wanderers. I define these spirits as spirits who come and go and never stay. They do odd things and act in strange ways, from other spirits around me. I also want to say that since I’ve been married and haven’t lived at home I very rarely have experiences. That leaves me to believe that there isn’t anything here most of the time. Even though I normally don’t have experiences here, sometimes I do and I feel like it is always something different getting my attention and almost as fast as it came, it’s gone. I might have things happen for a day or two but no more than that. Read on, and tell me; what is it??

My brother was in the process of moving away from home. He had drawers from his dresser stacked in the middle of his room. My mom had taken a load of his belongings to his new apartment and he went with her to help unload his things when they got there. I was home alone with Marie (from the previous posts). We were in my room across the hall watching TV when we heard someone walking up the stairs but then going into his room and moving drawers and restacking them. Note: the normal walking up the stairs occured between midnight and 4 am, this was around noon.

I was taking a bath and listening to music upstairs. I heard someone in my room, though, no one else was home. I ignored it. I then heard a loud crash coming from my room. I got out to see what it was. I walked into my room, with my towel around me. My closet light was on, but I never leave it on. I looked and everything that was previously on the top closet shelf up top was now on the floor.

A friend gave me a Brigid’s Cross. I took it home and placed it above my bedroom door, hung on a nail. I found it on the floor on the opposite wall and there was a mark by the wall where it “landed”.The next day, after I had rehung it, the cross was found in my dryer, and wadded up.

I was trying to sleep. I struggle to do this without my husband by my side, cheesy? Very. But I can’t. I tossed and turned and finally decided that if I sit as still as possible I would go to sleep. The room was pitch black. Dead quiet. I was quieting my thoughts. Steadying my breathing to meditatively go to sleep. In…and out…in…and out…in. “HEY” Someone whispered loudly by my head and I felt my legs being hit from above the covers. I shot up. Looked around. No one. Nothing. Just darkness.

Recently, my cat went missing. Well, missing is an exaggeration. He disappeared for a few minutes somewhere inside the house. I texted my brother-in-law (who lives with us) to ask if he was in his room. I heard my brother-in-law in his room talking on his phone with a friend and laughing, my husband heard it too. His reply? “I’m not home so idk go check.” It sounded like he was absolutely home, so I opened the door and sure enough he was gone. My husband and I were both pretty stunned.

These are just a few of the times this has happened. It’s very rare for me but it does happen and it has happened a lot less since I moved from my parents’ house. I believe that all of these events are unrelated and the spirits are different in each story. So, why? If you have any clue, let me know!!

Also, the picture is my parents’ backyard at sunset. Very pretty, kinda spooky.

Kim Johnston sat with her partner Shane and medium Blaine trying to communicate with the spirits of the home in Rockford, Alabama. They decide to use a spirit box to hear the voices of the spirits. “Hey!” they quickly heard the voice of a small child. “What is your name, child?” Asks Blaine, who had already been getting the name through his reading. “Mark.” They then hear “Jacob Smith” come through, another spirit making his presence known. After discussions with the spirits, a loud SCREEEECH is coming through the home. The spirits of the two evil brothers who reside in the home made themselves known, loud and clear.

This is the continuation of The Rockford Haunting. With that said, you really need to read the first one or have the books to continue with this one, I guess technically you don’t but you should, it’s really crazy! Also, it’s been a minute and I AM SO SORRY!!! I had to kind of get the scheduling figured out for how I was going to do this balanced with work and classes but I’m getting it going. Having a blog is a dream of mine so I want to make sure it’s great for whoever reads it, even if it’s just like two people (I see you two people!). Anyway! Let’s dive in!

Kim Johnston, as said in the previous post on this topic, is a paranormal investigator who alongside Shane Busby and their team in investigating paranormal locations. In this haunting, they were investigating a home in Rockford Alabama where Jenny Scott previously lived before she moved her family to a new, not haunted, home.

When they began investigating this home, they decided to use a spirit box, which is essentially (from what I can tell) a radio that sweeps AM and FM stations to create white noise which allows spirits to communicate vocally and in real time, unlike using a voice recorder that you have to play back. In the spirit box reading they immediately hear the voice of a child, Mark say “Hey”. They then begin to hear a man come through, Jacob Smith. While talking with these spirits that seem harmless, the brothers who Blaine said he saw in the upstairs window at the end of the first book, begin wanting to be known. They make a loud screeching sound to be known then start saying obscenities through the spirit box.

While Blaine is talking to the brothers, Kim hears a sigh coming from right behind her, they quiet the spirit box and listen, they all hear a dog barking but debunk it saying the neighbors might have a dog or there could be a dog out somewhere and they can’t see because of the darkness outside the windows. After a while of talking about the equipment going haywire next to blaine, Shane asks everyone to be quiet, Why? (This is incredibly sad) they all hear a dog’s paws walking across the kitchen floor believed to be Betty Lou. Shane tries to see if maybe the blinds rattling could have been what they heard and asks everyone else if that’s what they heard when a man’s hushed voice says “No.”  Kim goes to tell Shane of the voice, he banters with her saying maybe she should play a game with the spirit, They end up getting a ball to see if the spirit will kick it to them. Blaine tells the group that the child spirit Mark, wants to play. They all begin to hear a child’s humming.

Kim decided that they all need to go look upstairs. As they rise they all smell sulfur, which she explains is the smell of demonic energy. They also notice the ladybugs mentioned in part one. Shane sees the attic and decided to go up, since Jenny said she always heard noises coming from there, he wanted to see why. Shane, as Kim explains, is always concerned with debunking what he can. He got a chair to stand on so he could look into the attic, he couldn’t see anything because of the darkness but he does ask Kim for the video camera to get some night vision shots. He comes back down and said he didn’t see any evidence of an animal in the attic to which Blaine explained is because he is positive it’s the brothers, they like to hide in the attic.

They finally decide to go into the “Green Whisper Room” to finish the investigation. Blaine wanted to, with the help of his spirit guide, get rid of the evil brothers. They go in, turn off the lights and set their gear down. Kim hears Blaine struggling to breathe so she turned the lights on to see him looking unwell. She asked if he was ok, he explained that the spirits are making him feel this way. He said that he encountered a woman in the room who struggled to breathe as she died, he is an empath so he can feel what others, including spirits, feel. He used the spirit box to get the brothers to explain why they tortured the family, their response was “funny”. They thought it was fun to torture the family the way they did. Blaine calls the mother of brothers to get them and according to him, she did. He said he didn’t think they would bother any other family but they decided to bless the home to be safe. They anointed every entryway and mirror in the home with holy water. After the blessing, they said the energy shifted and became lighter throughout the home, their phones even began working again when they previously thought they didn’t have service.

A few days after the investigation, Kim and the team went to show Jenny and her husband Hunter what they found. She said they captured over twenty EVP’s including, disembodied voices, and the spirit box responses. They hear the humming and Jenny exclaimed that it sounded like a song her son Buddy hums.

The next part of the book is about Kim as an investigator, which is really interesting and I do recommend reading the book to see that, but my concern in this story is the Rockford haunting. I wanted to write about that in particular so for that reason, I’m skipping to the part where Kim and Jenny began to research the house. Years later they find out about “the voodoo preacher” Reverend Willie Maxwell. She starts to go into detail about some of the newspaper articles they found.

Jenny had found out that Harper Lee (she wrote To Kill a Mockingbird) was releasing a new book and some began to wonder what happened to book she was writing in the 80’s The Reverend. This, Jenny said was about a man who may or may not have killed five people in his home in Nixburg which was merged into Rockford and Jenny believed it to be the house she and her family had lived in years earlier.

In the 70’s a preacher, Willie  Maxwell, was being questioned for the murder of his wife Mary Lou Maxwell who was found in her wrecked car, they suspected she had been murdered when she looked like she had been beaten and strangled. He was never convicted of murder but during the trial the prosecutor mentioned he had ties with voodoo and that’s where his name “the voodoo preacher” came from. Sometime later, though, his brother, John Columbus Maxwell, was found dead. Investigators ruled it as alcohol poisoning and freezing due to him possibly passing out in February. With both of these deaths, Willie was the beneficiary on the life insurance policy. Then just months later, Willie’s second wife, Dorcas was found dead but this time, the insurance company refused to pay out her policy. Willie sued and doctors on the case testified that Dorcas did not die from trauma, she had a bronchial condition and they believed she had suffocated and that it had been aggravated by the accident. Willie won the case. There was another accident but this time, Willie had again not been suspected.

Willie married again, his wife, Ophelia, had a daughter, Shirley, and they had a son, Michael.

Shirley, had wanted to take the car to go to a neighboring town, Ohpelia would not let her because she was too young to have a license and it was late at night. After the conversation Michael informed Ophelia that Shirley had taken the car, so Shirley began trying to find her. Willie came home later after “scouting timber locations “while Ophelia was talking to police and after they went to go find her, when police informed them that they had found Shirley and she had passed in a car accident. Shirley looked as if she had been trying to change a tire because a jack was found and the tireless car was crushing her neck. Ophelia told police that Shirley had not been herself in weeks and they immediately began suspecting foul play. Many suspected Willie had murdered Shirley and at her funeral, her sister told Willie that he was going to pay. Shirley’s uncle, Robert Burns, said he was angry that Willie showed up at all. Burns, became upset and pulled out his pistol and shot Willie at the funeral. Burns was found not guilty by reason of insanity, he was suffering from PTSD from Vietnam. Weeks after it was officially determined that Shirley had been murdered and her body was placed under Willie’s car.

Jenny and Kim later realized that the cemetery where all of the murdered were buried and Willie’s old house was very close to the house Jenny’s family had lived in. All of the murdered family had been found on the road near the rental home as well.

About three years later, Kim and Jenny went to the Coosa County Courthouse in their research and then the cemetery the Maxwells were buried in. Jenny became upset when they found Willie and his brother John. SHe had mentioned that a painting had flown off her wall the day before and she had heard the same scurrying sound from the Rockford house in the cemetery while they were there. She believed the house was starting to haunt her.

A few weeks later Kim went back to the courthouse to continue their research. She found that the land the house was on was owned by Willie’s family generations ago, then in the 40’s they lost the land and it went to auction where Jacob Smith bought it (remember that name?)

Kim’s family began to experience things, her daughter heard noises. She began to interview people for the show Paranormal Witness, they were doing an episode on the Rockford house. One woman she interviewed said she was a medium and told Kim that she needed to stop or she would bring “bad fortune”  she cried and begged her to stop the research and leave it alone. She made Kim say she would keep in touch so she could ward off the evil.

Things in Kim’s house kept getting worse, a board fell on her daughter, she was fine thought. Her husband saw shadows and heard footsteps. She heard screeching. She called Blaine one night and told him what was going on, he told her he would send spiritual protectors, and he did.

During the filming for Paranormal Witness the crew heard the scurrying sound during Jenny’s interview, they got to finish filming.

Then, together, Jenny and Kim wrote Haint Blue.

This story is really crazy. I read these books about a year ago and reread them so I could summarize for you. This is probably one of my favorite stories because it’s so real but it’s so terrifying. I’ve experienced a ton of paranormal things but nothing has ever tried to hurt me or make me crazy, for the most part, the spirits I’ve encountered have just wanted to make themselves known. Can you imagine going through this??

For anyone that has begun to read this blog, I apologize for the late posts. I’m starting a new posting schedule and trying some things out that you will begin to see coming up in the next posts.

For the new posting schedule I will be posting a personal paranormal story on Mondays which should be up at midnight. I will do a paranormal story that I found interesting on Fridays which will also be up on midnight. This is something I’ll begin next week (Monday September 30).

I’m a full time student and I also work full time so I had to rearrange my schedule a bit to compensate for that. I really want this blog to be something people look forward to twice a week. I want people who are interested in the spooky, odd, out-of-the-ordinary things to to come here and feel like they found their people.

Right now, I’m writing about things close to me, I think it’s important to do that because, being in the Bible Belt, many people don’t talk about this and this is something that TONS of people go through and can’t say a word about or else they’ll be labeled as weir or unchristian-like. I think it’s also important to note that, experiencing these things does not have anything to with your religious views.

I’m excited about the future of this blog and watching it grow, If you read this please comment! Comment anything, tell me about yourself or your pets, what are your dreams, what projects are you working on? If you make art or have a blog yourself, go ahead and put your social media info down!

Also, HAPPY FALL!

Jenny Scott’s phone rings and she answers to her husband Hunter telling her great news! He has finally found a rental home in Rockford, Alabama closer to his job. He describes a home that is older and beautiful. Telling her of this affordable home that could also hold their family for four, the picture being painted of this deal is almost too good to be true.

Their entire world was about to turn into a living nightmare.

Here’s what happened: Jenny, her husband Hunter, and children, Gracyn, Buddy and Faythe, were living in Auburn, Alabama. Hunter’s commute was an hour in each direction daily. I can attest having done it myself, an hour commute to work is exhausting. Jenny would stay at home with the kids. They were beginning to falter financially as it was, daycare would be an added expense that wasn’t necessary. Their current landlord was raising the rent on their small, two-bedroom apartment and they were feeling suffocated. Hunter began to look for a new home closer to his job, that was more affordable, and he found this beautiful home in Rockford. Jenny’s son Buddy was from a previous marriage, and she didn’t want to have to take him from a school district he was already acclimated to and upheave his life moving him an hour away to a new school district. She made plans with Buddy’s father and they decided it was best, while difficult for her, that Buddy stay with him during the week and come to her every weekend. Hunter’s daughter Faythe, was also from a previous relationship, and she lived with her mother full-time.
Hunter went ahead and rented the home, passed the keys to Jenny and while he was at work, she and their toddling daughter Graycn went to look at the house. Upon getting to the house she kept thinking “ it’s too good to be true”. The home was big and well taken care of, but it didn’t belong. She recalls that it was “New Orleans style home with wrought iron railing across the top porch”. As she went into the home she began noticing strange things. The sliding glass door to the back yard was nailed shut, while the outside was well kept there were papers scattered throughout the kitchen and dining room, and when she made her way upstairs, she noticed that everything on the second story was painted blue. She noted in her book that it wasn’t just the walls, it was the light switches, ceilings, window and door frames. All were painted blue. In the south (and Jenny mentions this as well) it isn’t uncommon for some older “plantation” style homes to have blue ceilings on porches, it’s thought to keep mosquitoes away, especially in more humid parts of the south like Louisiana and Florida, and also south Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. But not INSIDE the house, just on the porches.

Jenny began to feel uneasy about the home after her tour and went to tell Hunter they had to find something else. It disappointed him because it was such a nice house and within their budget, she begrudgingly decided to go along with it! And they moved in.

The first experience she mentions is after a day of painting over the blue upstairs, she sees a figure in one of the upstairs windows while she was exploring the backyard of the home. The only people home were her mother who was in the kitchen, Gracyn, and herself. She immediately panicked thinking another person was in the house! She got everyone out just when Hunter was pulling in the drive. He went to check the house and, of course, no one was in it. She mentions that her obsession with painting is what ,she believes, set the haunting in motion.

The next event was when Hunter’s daughter ,Faythe got to sleep in her new room. They had an issue with Japanese lady beetles and had finally gotten rid of them before she came. The morning after her first night there they woke up to find Faythe sleeping on the couch. She explained that bugs were crawling all over her in the bedroom. When they went to check, they didn’t see any bugs at all. Faythe also mentioned thinking they were coming down the stairs all night, she heard them creaking, and of course, they weren’t.

Jenny’s son, Buddy, saw an antique mirror she had in her dressing closet on his way to their bathroom one day and became terrified. He never would tell her what he saw but she ended up having to hide all reflective surfaces, and still does.

Shortly after they moved, they adopted a basset hound named Betty Lou. Jenny eventually got comfortable with letting Betty Lou go outside alone, but one day she didn’t come back. Hunter went out to look for her and he found her. Her heart had been removed from her body. This was traumatizing for Jenny, she loved Betty Lou and found comfort in her being there while hunter was at work late into the evenings.

At one point Jenny felt like she was pushed down the stairs by something. The family also began seeing shadow people during their time at the Rockford house.

Jenny mentioned in the book that she felt isolated, most of the time it was just her and Gracyn, a toddler. She feels (as most people who believe and study the paranormal do) that this entity was feeding off the negativity in the house, and making her more negative as a result. Jenny began to experience sleep paralysis and saw something sitting on her chest. She began to research sleep paralysis and came across the Boo Hag, and I’ll post a link explaining the Boo Hag down below so you can read more about it if you’re interested. In her research, she also found that Haint Blue (like the paint upstairs) is used to confuse spirits in a similar way it’s thought to keep out wasps and mosquitoes,Jenny began to realize her mistake by painting.

She and Hunter decided it was time to get OUT, so they started packing and looking for new places to stay. They also anointed the house with oil to “bless” it. At one point during her packing, Jenny went into Gracyn’s room and found a cross they had hanging was turned upside down.

Thankfully, not long after, they found a home for rent, a bit out of their price range, but they took it. With about three weeks left on the Rockford lease, they moved into their new house. The day they moved, Kim Johnston, a paranormal investigator, came to  investigate the Rockford house.

Kim said before she began the investigation, she spoke for weeks with Jenny. She began having nightmares about it and even before going she experienced sleep paralysis as well.

Kim met with a medium at the Rockford house and began their investigation and right off the bat he started hearing the spirits. While she tried to get in contact with her business partner Shane, her phone kept cutting out from lost signal. The medium explained two brothers were the spirits in the home and they didn’t want anyone there. He told her to look at the upstairs window (just like Jenny first had) and Kim saw two black, shadowy figures.

And that’s where the first part of their book ends. Part two is the investigation.

Jenny Scott is a writer, she has a blog (https://whimseyjenny32.wordpress.com/), and she survived a horrifying ordeal at the hands of evil spirits. She, along with Kim Johnston, wrote about this experience. Kim is a paranormal investigator with sCARE of Alabama, who has investigated many haunted locations in Alabama. She is one of the investigators that went to Jenny’s home in Rockford. I actually had the pleasure of hearing her speak about her experiences after I had purchased and read Haint Blue part one. I happened across the book on Amazon and decided to buy it since it was a true haunting in Alabama. It was thrilling and insanely scary at times. I believe it got me spooked because I have had many, MANY experiences with the paranormal and nothing I have experienced is anywhere near what Jenny and her family went through. This might be a long one! I didn’t want to leave anything important out! There will be a part two on this following the second book next week, so watch out for that!

So, tell me, Have you had any experiences similar to this one?
