I’ve been feeling really weird lately. I want to write more, and not just in this blog but actual novels. I have ideas but getting them on paper…er…Google Docs (?) is challenging for me.

I’ve always felt in everything I do that I’m an impostor, riding off the backs of others and doing the bare minimum to keep myself hidden from the reality that is how I am not very good at that thing (whatever it is).

But writing, man. I really love to write, but when I do I feel like it could always be better. More flowery, more metaphorical, more poetic. That isn’t really my style, though. It isn’t who I am. A friend (who is a published poet might I add) showed me a blog written by this man she likes today. It seemed like his words flowed so effortlessly. They were poetic and filled with references to literature and nature that I couldn’t even begin to write. Mainly because I have the memory of a dead fly, and I don’t remember things until I have to or am reminded. I just halfway wish my words were as beautiful.

I guess that, I just like doing this. I feel like if I wrote more eloquently I’d have more readers, which isn’t really the point, and the truth is that I’d have more if I actually kept a schedule going and followed through with it!

I’m not looking for any kind words or encouragement. I just wanted to word vomit some things, that’s my style, word vomit. Short, straightforward word vomit. It works for me. <3

So first off, the bots. I know I need to write more but I can always tell how long I’ve been neglecting my blog based on the number of fake/bot comments I get. I particularly like the ones telling me how to “meet matures” or giving me “dating for seniors reviews”. Those are my faves.

Can we also talk about how insane 2020 has been though? With everything that’s going on most of us just ignored the Pentagon releasing footage of UFOs! Which, I know, I should have already been on this! But damn, life is crazy.

Let’s talk about that though. UFOs, so there’s proof now right? According to CNN, the videos were first released privately, then the Navy supposedly approved them as legitimate last year!

The government still has not confirmed that these are extra terrestrial phenomena but they are calling them “unidentified aerial phenomena”. In the videos you can hear the naval aviators who took the footage talking about what they were seeing, one of them says “there’s a whole fleet of them!” They excitedly talk about how fast the UFOs were moving and defying laws of physics.

This is exciting as Hell! The pentagon is (sort of) confirming what many have believed in forever! It was pretty selfish for us to not believe in life outside of our planet, and it’s pretty hard to say there definitely is not or would never be life outside of Earth, considering there’s life here!

Either way, whether or not this case IS aliens for certain doesn’t matter. The videos are cool, and no one is saying they AREN’T UFOs, so that’s promising!

The link to the CNN article is below and a TikTok (I know, I know) that I found funny on this case, and also has some strong language so..you know, watch out for that (also it is satire, I felt compelled to say that).

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/27/politics/pentagon-ufo-videos/index.html

I really need to write more if only to keep the bot comments away.

I have to admit though, I’ve been struggling with my belief system. In studying, I’ve realized that more often than not “paranormal experiences” can be explained by suggestion. So while I don’t necessarily know if I believe that, I can’t say I don’t either. I have had plenty of experiences alone, but the majority of them have happened with other people around. I’ve never gotten any real proof that something happened.

When speaking of suggestion, it’s most widely understood that someone’s memories can be changed. For example, memory is the most unreliable piece of evidence used. If someone says ” hey, remember this event? You were wearing a blue shirt and black pants and we ate corn-dogs?” you might remember the event, but you were wearing a red shirt, blue jeans, and ate funnel cake. My point is, that I think this is easily achieved when there are hauntings too.

If I’m with a group of my friends and we’re already talking about spooky things and it gets quiet and we hear a BANG! What else are we going to think that is? I think that maybe that’s what happened a lot when I was growing up. There were times I was alone but I would already be scared.

I think I want to start trying to find my own proof of the paranormal. I want to use a spirit box, maybe a voice recorder and try to find evidence to either prove or disprove this for myself. I have many trips planned this summer to try and do this. Right now things are too busy for me to try and find evidence, but when life slows down, I’ll start searching.

To be clear, I’m not saying I woke up and now I don’t believe, but I do have some skeptical thoughts. I think that’s healthy though. Like I said in my haunted library post, a bit of skepticism is healthy and necessary. If you go in to every situation expecting to see something paranormal, you will. But only because you suggested to yourself that something would happen. It may not be paranormal but you heard a sound, felt some cold and now you’re convinced it’s a ghost! This is how suggestion works and I want to find proof without suggestion.

The sun was beginning to shine through my bedroom window. I feel my cat jump onto the bed and walk up towards my head. He does this most mornings, so I look up to call to him to come…

I was going to make my next post be a Friday post about a pretty notorious Birmingham haunting. The day I was going to begin to write it though, something happened that I felt like I needed to tell about.

So, most mornings when my husband is getting ready for work, he goes and showers, gets dressed and then comes back in to get his wallet. We have two cats, Pancake and Waffle, and normally Waffle will either sneak in when husband comes in to get his things or, husband normally leaves the door just barely cracked so Waffle can come into the room when he’s ready. This is a normal occurrence for us.

Lately, Waffle has not been feeling like himself. We’ve taken him to the vet and he says he has a hormone imbalance, he’s on medication and should be getting back to normal. While he’s been not feeling well though, he hasn’t wanted to come to snuggle in the mornings like he usually will.

The other day, husband came in to get his wallet and phone as usual before leaving for work. I felt what I was pretty sure was Waffle jump onto the bed and walk around. I felt four paw-like steps being taken on the bed and honestly my heart started lifting a little because, like I said, he hasn’t been wanting to snuggle since he doesn’t feel great, so I was taking this as a sign he was feeling better. So I lifted my head and started to pat beside the pillow for him to come but he wasn’t there. No one was. Not Pancake (which would be abnormal since he isn’t as snuggly as Waffle) no Waffle. So I sat straight up and started looking for him in the room. I thought that surely he was just under the bed, maybe he had jumped down before I could see. I then noticed that Husband did not leave the door cracked as he normally would to allow Waffle in. There was no way that he can open a completely shut door, he tries, but he isn’t there yet.

This is what I was talking about though in one of my last posts. Strange things happen randomly to me and I have no explanation. This one I guess I could say that I was half asleep and half dreaming. But normally when I’m in that state I can’t wake myself up quickly and I can’t move.

What do you think? Do these things happen to you too??

So, the semester is over and I have no excuses for not posting now! All A’s so you guys KNOW I worked hard!

I want to continue posting about mainly paranormal things going on the state, but personal stories are really cool too! If you have an interesting paranormal story (ghosts, aliens, demons, whatever) email me and let me know! I want to know other people’s stories too.

Also, I see these page views, OK? I know you’re lurking. Leave a comment on any post, send me an email, let me know you’re visiting and where you’re from! I get encouraged to keep this up when I see that people want to read it. The fact that I got four hundred-something page views throughout this month while I wasn’t writing made me so excited but also sad that I haven’t been keeping up like I should. And I know that those views are probably random people who happened on this page looking for something else, but if you ARE one of those people and you liked anything, or hated it let me know.

What can I change? What would you prefer to see? I want to grow this into maybe a podcast or video series or something one day, but I first want people to know it exists. If you read my posts and like them, share the site to your social media.

Friday, we’re back to spooks 😉

Lynn and I were standing on the front porch of my parents’ house, terrified. It was cold outside, it was around ten at night, and we had Marie on speaker phone explaining what had taken place that day and what had gone on. We asked her advice, while she was speaking we both heard a guttural, animalistic growl.

This story is one of the ones I explained took place with Lynn, obviously. There’s a lot to this story but it was one of the worst ones we have. It wasn’t bad because we were in danger but it was one of the most memorable ones. I also had to get her input on a good bit of it because there are so many different facets to this that I had forgotten some details.

The year after we graduated highschool, Lynn and I spent almost every day together. We had a few paranormal experiences separately after the event on graduation night but they weren’t anything too bad.

There was one day though, I was watching my younger sister who at the time was around two years old, she had just begun to speak in somewhat full sentences.Lynn had stayed the night with me the night before and when we woke up my parents were gone to work for the day and I had my sister in the bed with me since my room was upstairs and hers was down stairs, it was easier to have her sleep in the room with me the night before. When we all three woke up, I went downstairs to the kitchen to grab a sippy cup for my sister. When I got back to my room, Lynn was ghost white (get it?…anyway) and had already picked her up and carried her down the stairs. I asked her what was wrong and Lynn said that she(sister) had looked up to my ceiling and asked “Lynn, what wrong with her head? She hurt?” to which Lynn replied “who?” “Her. Her head is hurt here” and she pointed to her neck. We were both a bit creeped out but given that she had just started speaking in somewhat coherent sentences, Lynn could have misunderstood her toddler-talk. We let it go.

A friend had later called and asked if we wanted to come over and cook dinner with her and just have a movie night, she had a child who was around my sister’s age and they could play together. So we decided it was a good idea, we hadn’t seen Jenn since before graduation and it would be nice to catch up. She gave us directions to her house which was a town away, so maybe a thirty-minute drive. Not too far. On the way though Sister looked out the window, she had a serious face on, and she said “ she said we turning that way.” and pointed to the right. And she was right. In about three miles, according to the directions, Jenn’s house was down a road to the right. So this could be explained away too. But I’m not sure how. Maybe Sister is a crazy good guesser, even at that age?

Anyway, we get there, we cook, we eat, we watch some movies. Normal teenager-who-is-also-babysitting kinda stuff.

When we were driving home, Sister began to laugh and says “HE’S CHASING US!! He can’t get us!!” and continues laughing so I ask “Who is chasing us” and she says “you don’t see him? Right here!” and points out the window. I told her there was nothing there and that she was being silly. But then she said “He says you DO see him!” And at that moment we heard a loud thunk in the trunk of my car. I kept going, I was kind of scared. We finally got home. My mom got Sister ready for bed and tucked her in while Lynn and I stayed in the living room thinking about all the crazy things Sister had said today. We still somewhat brushed it off.

Later that night, around nine, we were talking about how everything that day was crazy and Lynn decided she needed to go home. She went to leave and her car wouldn’t crank, it just shook. She explained that it felt like someone had jumped onto the backend of her car but no one was there. She got out and ran back to the front door and knocked. I let her in and she said something like “I guess I’m not leaving.” and explained what happened. Again, we could say this is somehow mechanical. I’m not sure why a car would not turn over to crank but instead just shake, but I’m not a mechanic! We go to walk to my room and hear a growl. I don’t even know how to describe it but it was really deep and loud.

We then decided to go outside because neither of us wanted to be inside after that. I tried to call my dogs to come in while we were outside, mostly for some extra comfort, neither of them would come onto the porch. They both stood in the yard and stared at us and whined. They refused to get on the porch. We then called Marie. She had more experiences than either of us had throughout her life. At this point she was away at college, so we didn’t see her as often as we’d liked. We were trying to explain everything that was going on but every time she would say something paranormal related, the phone would begin to cut out. We could only hear bits and pieces of what she was saying. She finally tried again and between Lynn and I we heard another growl. It sounded like it was right between us. We both looked at each other and I’m pretty sure I teared up a bit. That was probably the scariest sound I had ever heard and growing up in a religious home, I was afraid it was demonic or evil. I don’t think it was now, but then I was sure we were going to get attacked.

We promptly got off the phone after quickly explaining what had happened and Lynn ended up staying again and the rest of the night was pretty quiet.

Creepy things happened multiple times after this and mostly it was Lynn that it happened to. I know her brother began experiencing things after this too. I’m not sure what we opened or how, but for the next year or so we had things like this happen separately but when we were together it got worse.

I also want to note that I don’t want to use any name for my sister. She lives with my parents but is not biologically theirs and she isn’t related in anyway. She is not adopted either so just in case I won’t put her name or any variation in my blogs. But she pops up a few times. 🙂

So, this weekend I decided to drag my unwilling husband to do something I’ve never done and he has DEFINITELY never done.

We went ghost hunting.

To be fair, we went on a “ghost hunting tour” so we didn’t actually GO ghost hunting.

The Talladega Armstrong-Osborne Library is haunted. I have a credible source that tells me this, the library director, Vickie, who I’ve known for years. Supposedly, the old library used to be what is now the Heritage Hall Museum and the city built a new library. After they did that, the library became very haunted. This makes sense, a lot of people see this type of thing happens when you change something in a home, or this case, a library. Remember, that’s what happened with my parents’ home. Up until they remodeled, I can’t remember any activity IN the “old” house,  that whole neighborhood though? Haunted!

According to Vickie, she worked at the library for many years, she left for some time then came back after they had moved it. When she came back on her first day, she was alone and heard a party. She recalls hearing laughter, clinking glasses, conversation, but when she went to check it out, no one was there. Since then, she and the other employees have seen shadow figures, heard footsteps, been touched, had their hair tugged, heard laughing, and more. There are so many stories associated with this building. I’ve been wanting to check it out for myself forever but two things were holding me back: 1. I’m not a ghost hunter, nor have I ever ghost hunted, I never had to do much hunting they always found me like stray puppies but not as cute, and 2. Even if I had gone ghost hunting and had the equipment and knew what I was doing, how would I convince the city to let me do that after hours alone on city property? The chances were zero there.

Then comes the group the Southern Ghost Girls (I tried to find a website, they have a Facebook pagehttps://www.facebook.com/southernghostgirls  but also here is a clip of them on abc3340 https://abc3340.com/station/talk-of-alabama/talk-of-alabama-2819-southern-ghost-girls ). These women dress in 9th and early 20th century garb and hunt ghosts. Not only that but they put on these ghost hunting tours so you can see what they do, how and why. They give a portion of their proceeds to different charities and for the library, they donated to their summer reading program. (you have to purchase tickets but thats really no big deal since they are giving back, they also have merch you can get at these events)

I figured this was a good first step for me since I really want to get some equipment and begin doing this (safely). So we get there, Husband is already not super into this, Friday is our night to eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant so that couldn’t happen.  We go in, we hear Vickie give her rendition of everything she has experienced there, and it’s a lot, you guys. Then Lesley, the owner of the group explains what we’re going to do and how it goes.

We then go outside to take some pictures and see what we can find in those, so I have a picture of what I am almost certain is a mosquito photobombing me, it is Alabama afterall, and I’m convinced we’re never going to see cool air again. So one of the women in Southern Ghost Girls starts handing out dowsing and rods and I wanted to be part of that forsure. I’ve never used dowsing rods until then so I wanted to try it out.

They were cool. Really cool. I can see how if you really wanted to, you could make them go in any direction easily. But I tried to stay as still as possible and I asked some questions that got relevant answers so I was pleased with that.

One issue I did have with the whole ordeal, is that they recommended that everyone use an app that was supposed to work like a spirit box (but without the AM/FM radio signals and no white noise??) to communicate, and I kind of get it. You have forty people there wanting to see or talk to spirits and not enough equipment to go around, and after some research into the equipment, I wouldn’t let just anyone hold it either, it’s not cheap! So, what do you do? Tell them about a free app that’s going to plop random words onto the screen (mostly names) and make people feel like they’re actually communicating. No shade at all, that was probably the biggest complaint I have about the entire night, the second biggest being that I was hungry but that was my own fault. I do have a second complaint, but I understand the point to that as well. It’s that THERE WERE FORTY FREAKING PEOPLE AT A GHOST HUNT??! Of course no one got any REAL evidence! And I felt that having such a huge group took away from the experience completely. That’s my opinion, though. I do understand that this is their job, they have to make money (that is NOT to say however, that they did a bad job or that it’s fake or anything negative like that).

A few people did get some crazy pictures and they did get some voices coming through the actual spirit box, which I was really surprised by. But they coolest things that happened were when at one point, they trying to speak to a spirit who they believe to be named Henry. They had a REMpod set up on one of the tables in the library, the REMpod makes a continuous beep when something breaks the magnetic field it produces, letting you know when a spirit is near, or yourself if you get too close. Lesley was asking the spirit yes or no questions, as one does, and to answer yes, the spirit touched the REMpod. It kept beeping until Lesley said “Ok Henry, back away now please.” and it stopped. They also used

The next cool thing I saw was when my husband and I decided to break off from the group for a minute and see if we could get anything if we were alone. We went into the Children’s Room where they have story time and the girls had set up a laser grid to cast lasers throughout the room. We tried talking to the spirits and nothing happened until a little girl who was there for her 13th birthday came in with who I am assuming was her grandmother. The little girl was hesitant to say anything to the spirits that could be in the room but she said “Do you want to play Hide-and-Seek? Run over here if you do!” and I followed up with “Yeah, come tag us!” (no one else was thrilled by me saying that to be honest). But then we did see something break the lights and come toward us! So that was really cool! They also used this camera (and I have no clue what it’s called so help me out) but it had a screen and it would show “anomalies” in a green stick figure form. They saw some anomalies doing what looked like fighting in the children’s book section, so that was really cool too!

All in all, the night was interesting and I did get to communicate with some little ghost kids and maybe someone else through some dowsing rods. I had a good time and it made me eager to start collecting equipment and trying my hand at ghost hunting.

I do want to say this, I think it is VERY important to be somewhat skeptical when going in to literally anything you do in life. Including looking for the paranormal in things. Not everything is paranormal, humans have great imaginations. With that said, I do wholeheartedly believe that library is haunted. I do also believe that if you go through life believing every single thing you’re told to believe, you’re gonna have a bad time. Figure things out for yourself, humans are also very unique and we can have different opinions and see things differently from others, and that’s what is so amazing about us!

So, the picture I put up this time is a picture of the possible orb/bug. Let me know what you think it is! Let me also make it clear though, there were tons of flying insects of many varieties, before we start screaming “ORB!!” keep that in mind 😉

It’s the night before high school graduation and I have two friends stay at my house, Marie and Lynn. In our celebratory excitement we decide to take some snacks to the pier across the street on the main water to look at the moon and the stars and talk about our future endeavors. My dog, Teddy, followed to join our party. While we get settled we talked and laughed. It was at ten o’clock pm that we decided to go across the street and now it was nearing midnight. “Hey guys, we should go in soon, I have to get my little brother to school in the morning” Lynn reminded us. As seniors, we only had to be at school at noon for our graduation rehearsal. Soon after Teddy begins to growl and snarl at something we can’t see. Then we hear it, and we run!

Sorry this one is really late, I’m going to change up the schedule, so Mondays will be personal paranormal stories and Fridays will now be the other stories I find that I want to write about.

I wanted to try and keep my personal stories in chronological order as they happened, and for the most part I am. This story does happen years after my last one (http://nowleavingnormal.com/the-staircase/) but I have a reason for that. Most of the things that happened after the first one became pretty normal for me. The walking up the staircase every night and seeing shadows all became part of my daily routine. There were a few things that I remember vividly that were out of the ordinary but for the most part the same things happened. This night though, began a very scary time for me. Understand too, that most of my friends were going off to college and moving away, the friend in this story, Marie, pops up in many stories because at this point she was living with my family and also we were and still are very close, but she moved a few hours away. I am with Lynn as well, and for a while we were together most days. The reason I bring this up is because I think Lynn and I were in very negative places. This night began for both of us, some pretty traumatizing experiences and I believe most of that was because I at least, suffered from depression that I was doing my best at hiding and pushing down, creating a negative energy for whatever to wander in and make it worse. I feel like I, in some round-about way, invited the negative spirit to come in to my life. I felt like everyone was progressing their lives faster than me and I was working dead-end jobs and living at home. So that is some background, let’s dive in!

Most of the time when I had friends over, we stayed outside. I have to admit that the neighborhood I grew up in was safe and beautiful. It was an island that was connected to the main road by a cosway that went over the lake, creating a slew on the side I lived on and the main water on the other. The houses across the street were mainly vacation homes and on the main water.

So this night was no different in that aspect. We were on a pier that we favored, a fiberglass floating dock that was best for jumping into the water because it was around twenty feet deep at the end of the pier in the summer and it was open with no ceiling so it was the best looking at the sky (we had permission to be here as well). That’s where we sat most of the time, eating snacks and talking. What colleges we’ll be attending or not, what our future was going to look like from then, deep conversations (or what we at seventeen and eighteen felt were deep!)

But this time we sat out for two hours talking. Lynn was supposed to take her brother to school so we were about to go inside anyway when Teddy began to growl and snarl. This was very out of character for him. He was always a very good natured calm dog, he rarely got upset and he wasn’t aggressive in any way. As we looked around for whatever it is he saw that we didn’t, he ran, and not towards the “thing” he ran home! That’s when we saw what he was seeing, we heard it first. Crunching through the leaves on the ground, something sweeping through the tree limbs in the woods to our left. A large misty figure was coming toward us. It had the shape of a tall and large built man but it was dark and the edges of “him” blurred out in to what I can only describe as a mist.We were still blocked by woods from the road and my house. We all immediately got up and ran. As we ran, we could hear it following us. We heard it’s steps quicken with ours, our hearts racing, we didn’t have far to run but it felt like we were miles from home! Finally we got to the road and crossed the street still running until we were in front of the house where we turned back and looked. It seemed like the road was blocking the spirit from getting to us. We looked and watched as it started to fade away. We all looked at each other, adrenaline still running through our bodies and decided to go inside. We tried to go sleep since Lynn had to be up early.

The next morning Lynn woke up to shower and get dressed. My bathroom at my parents’ house was a “Jack-and-Jill” set up. So we had two sinks in an area where two bedroom doors connected and then another door that led to the toilet and shower. Lynn got her backpack (it’s also important to mention here that her backpack was one of those huge and heavy Army backpacks, her boyfriend was entering the military and somehow got one that she used and she had it filled with clothes and books and it probably weighed twenty pounds at this point) and propped it up in the sink on the right and balanced it against the mirror on the wall.

While she was in the shower she heard tapping on the door, thinking it was one of us she called out, “you can come in the door’s unlocked!” Nothing. She heard it again but louder this time and she said again “just come in, can you hear me?” Again there was no reply but this time there was a pounding on the door so she got out, irritated, “I said just….” but Marie and I were asleep, sound asleep. So she got back in, shaken though. Not long after she got back in we all heard a loud BANG! We all went to look and Lynn’s backpack had been thrown against the opposite wall on the opposite side of the bathroom.

Lynn got dressed pretty quickly, but after that began our adventure with this spirit that lasted for years! Marie had experiences too afterwards but she moved shortly after. We made sure to call her after every event though, she began the journey with us and we felt it was important to keep her connected to it ;).

The next couple of personal events I’ll write about we’re extremely scary for us but it also brought, me in particular, closer to wanting to know more about the paranormal, so you guys can thank that scary ghost/demon/whatever it was for this blog if you’re enjoying it!

For anyone that has begun to read this blog, I apologize for the late posts. I’m starting a new posting schedule and trying some things out that you will begin to see coming up in the next posts.

For the new posting schedule I will be posting a personal paranormal story on Mondays which should be up at midnight. I will do a paranormal story that I found interesting on Fridays which will also be up on midnight. This is something I’ll begin next week (Monday September 30).

I’m a full time student and I also work full time so I had to rearrange my schedule a bit to compensate for that. I really want this blog to be something people look forward to twice a week. I want people who are interested in the spooky, odd, out-of-the-ordinary things to to come here and feel like they found their people.

Right now, I’m writing about things close to me, I think it’s important to do that because, being in the Bible Belt, many people don’t talk about this and this is something that TONS of people go through and can’t say a word about or else they’ll be labeled as weir or unchristian-like. I think it’s also important to note that, experiencing these things does not have anything to with your religious views.

I’m excited about the future of this blog and watching it grow, If you read this please comment! Comment anything, tell me about yourself or your pets, what are your dreams, what projects are you working on? If you make art or have a blog yourself, go ahead and put your social media info down!

Also, HAPPY FALL!

A picture of a moon in the cloudy night sky,

Growing up in central Alabama, I remember in elementary school we would, as most schools do, have assemblies. One of my most memorable assemblies was when each class of first graders, during their allotted “library time” was gathered into our school’s quaint library. The teachers would seat us all on pillows which sat on top of carpeted stairs leading into a small auditorium-like space. On this day, our presenters were  reading us the famous book from my area; Thirteen Alabama Ghosts and Jefferey, and this is where my fascination began, I think.

I knew something was off in my childhood home, but growing up in a Christian home, talking of ghosts or other paranormal beings was rarely tolerated. Around the age of seven I had my first paranormal experience. In this experience, I felt, obviously terrified, but also incredibly intrigued. I began to want to know more but, I was still afraid of learning more.

My parents had purchased their home in the early eighties, it wasn’t old but it definitely wasn’t an example of modern design. The home, at the time of purchase, was a small, three bedroom home with one and a half bathrooms, if you could even call what was almost just an avocado green toilet in an avocado green linen closet half a bathroom. We lived in that home until I was around seven years old, then my parents decided we needed something bigger. They worked with contractors and all but rebuilt the small 1960’s era home. We went from three bedrooms to four, a basement, and two stories. When the renovation was finally complete after MONTHS of excitement and sleeping in the living room while my room was being built, the house was finished! I was stoked to finally stay in my new room! I didn’t have any furniture in the room but I begged to sleep in my room as soon as the house was finished. So, with a sleeping bag in tow, and my tiny hands carrying pillows and blankets and Dudley, my plush dragon, I began a journey I didn’t even know I signed up for that night.

That first night in my new bedroom is one I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

As a child, I was always scared of things, let’s keep that in mind. I wasn’t the adventurous “outdoorsy” type of kid. I rode bikes and swam in the lake behind our house but for the most part, I wasn’t like other kids my age that I grew up with. This fear wasn’t just outside though, I was afraid to be alone inside too. I’m sure my parents LOVED that I was always stuck to their sides, too afraid to do anything alone and having no reason to be. So for me to beg, you guys, BEG to sleep in my own room, ALONE, I’m positive they were thrilled too, maybe my parents thought this was the beginning of me sleeping alone and not being so afraid, but they would be wrong.

That night I couldn’t get to sleep. I didn’t want to go downstairs and hurt my seven-year-old pride by saying I was wrong and couldn’t do it, so I stuck it out! I stayed (almost) all night. At some point in the night I heard something tapping on my window so I looked up expecting a bird or an animal, I’m not really sure what I expected. But instead, I saw a face. I turned my head away and pulled my sleeping bag up around my face and sat there for a few seconds until I gained a tiny bit of courage to look back and see that it was gone. I don’t know who it could be, and honestly I thought even at that young age that I was dreaming. Dreaming or not, I threw in the towel at this point. I was done. No more!

Most people would say that, yes, I was dreaming. I probably had drifted off and had a nightmare in my sleep, and honestly, I thought that too until I started sleeping in my own room again as a teenager, maybe thirteen or fourteen. I was so afraid of what I saw that night, and things I heard and couldn’t explain while I was up in my room playing with barbies or stuffed animals, that for the next  nearly seven years I would sleep on the couch in the living room, or have friends over as much as possible so I wasn’t alone.

It wasn’t until I began sleeping in my room alone at fourteen that I realized very quickly, I did not dream this all those years ago, and I was vindicated when it wasn’t only me who saw things and heard them. Most of my friends from high school agree still , eight years later, that house is haunted! My brother still to this day claims he never saw anything or heard anything, but recently I got my dad to admit to me that he has seen and heard things but he didn’t want me to be more scared than I already was. My mom still claims that nothing is in the house ,even though she has a pretty cool sleep paralysis story she refuses to see as paranormal.

So this is where my interests began. In a home on the lake, that my parents still live in with my ten-year-old adopted sister. This place, and conversations on the pier with friends, are what all developed my passion and interest in the paranormal. I want to tell my stories, my experiences with ghosts, but I also want to do a deep dive into other paranormal topics. I want to learn and talk about cryptids and aliens and magic. But aside from all of that, I want to learn more about the different haunted locations in my area. I want to create the new updated version of Thirteen Alabama Ghosts and Jefferey and tell everyone what I find, but I also want you, my audience, to tell me YOUR experiences and where it happened! This is my first experience and as my husband once said and I can never let him down for it now, “That’s my TEDtalk!”
